After more than four decades behind the camera, I’ve learned that no two wedding days are ever quite the same.

Every couple has a different story, every venue has its own character, and some of the most meaningful photographs happen in moments that were never planned. As I return to wedding photography, I want to bring that experience back to what matters most: creating photographs that allow you to remember not only how your wedding looked, but how it felt.
If you’re considering a Houston wedding photographer, here’s what you can expect throughout your wedding day.
Before the Wedding
Good wedding photography starts well before the ceremony.
Understanding the schedule, venue, family dynamics, and the moments that are most important to you allows me to anticipate what is coming rather than simply reacting to it.
The goal isn’t to make your wedding day revolve around photography. Instead, photography should fit naturally into the day you’ve planned.
Getting Ready
The hours before the ceremony are filled with small moments that can easily be overlooked.
Details of the dress, flowers, invitations, rings, and the people helping you get ready all become part of the story. There are also quieter moments, nervous excitement, laughter, and anticipation that deserve to be remembered.
These photographs help tell the story of how the day began.
The Ceremony
During the ceremony, much of the photography is about anticipation and observation.
The walk down the aisle, a parent’s reaction, a glance between the couple, or a moment shared between family members can happen in seconds. Experience allows me to anticipate these moments while remaining as unobtrusive as possible.
Family and Wedding Party Portraits
Family photographs are an important part of almost every wedding, but they don’t have to take over the day.
A clear plan helps keep these portraits organized so we can photograph the people who matter most while leaving plenty of time for the rest of the celebration.
The same applies to the wedding party. The goal is to create photographs that feel polished while still allowing everyone’s personality to come through.
Your Portraits
For many couples, portraits are some of the most important photographs from the entire day.
This is where lighting, location, posing, and direction come together. My approach is to provide enough direction to make you feel comfortable while leaving room for natural expressions and genuine interaction.
The best portraits don’t always come from holding a perfect pose. Sometimes it’s a laugh, a glance, or the way you naturally interact with each other.
The Reception and Candid Moments
Once the reception begins, the pace can change completely.
Speeches, dancing, laughter, hugs, and conversations happen throughout the room. While the major events are important, I also look for the smaller interactions happening around them.
You may not notice every moment during your wedding day. That’s one of the reasons professional wedding photography is so valuable. Your photographer can be documenting moments happening across the room while you’re focused on celebrating with the people you love.
The Moments You Didn’t See
One of my favorite parts of wedding photography is giving couples photographs of moments they didn’t know happened.
You can’t be everywhere on your wedding day. There will be conversations, reactions, laughter, and little pieces of the celebration happening outside your view.
Years later, those photographs can become some of the most meaningful images in your collection.
More Than a Collection of Photographs
A wedding isn’t simply a series of scheduled events. It’s a day filled with people, emotions, unexpected moments, and memories that can pass by incredibly quickly.
After more than 40 years of photography, I’ve learned that the best wedding photographs aren’t always the ones that were planned. They’re often the photographs that preserve a feeling, a relationship, or a moment you might otherwise have forgotten.
My job is to preserve those moments while allowing you to remain present and enjoy the day.
If you’re planning a wedding in Houston or throughout Texas and are looking for an experienced Houston wedding photographer, I’d be happy to hear about your plans.
